OUR PREK ACADEMICS

Our Young Cubs (Pre-K4/Young 5’s) class provides a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children who may need a little more time to develop a strong foundation. Our Young Cubs program ensures every student has the skills and confidence they need to achieve their full potential when they arrive to kindergarten.

At DCS, we believe in sparking creativity and fostering a love for learning through engaging specials classes for our Pre-K4 and Young 5’s students. Each week PreK, students enjoy two 30-minute sessions in Visual Arts and one 30-minute session in Music, where they can explore their creativity and develop fine motor skills.

For our K-5th grade students, we believe in sparking creativity and fostering a love for learning through engaging specials classes. Each week, students enjoy 45-minute sessions in Visual Arts, Music, and STEM, where they can explore their creativity, discover new interests, and develop valuable skills. These dynamic classes provide hands-on, immersive experiences that inspire curiosity and enrich their educational journey.

SPECIALS that SPARK CREATIVITY

PHYSICAL EDUCATION and SPORTS

At DCS, our Young Cubs students develop essential life skills like teamwork and gross motor skills through twice-weekly 30-minute PE classes. They also enjoy twice daily recess periods and a rest period for much needed brain breaks and independent play time.

Lower School students at our Christian elementary school develop essential life skills like teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and healthy competition through twice-weekly 45-minute PE classes. These sessions encourage physical activity and personal growth while fostering a love for fitness. Students also have the opportunity to participate in junior athletics programs like Cross Country, Swim, and Cheer, building discipline, confidence, and camaraderie in a fun and supportive environment.

DCS is fully accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC), having received its highest level of accreditation, “Accredited With Quality.” Our students' test scores substantially exceed Georgia state test score averages.

LOWER SCHOOL (PreK-5th) PRINCIPAL
Mrs. Wanamaker, M.Ed.

Mrs. Wanamaker holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education, and brings DCS a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise in the field of education, spanning over 20 years. Notably, she holds the esteemed designation of Master Teacher from the Georgia Independent School Association. She has been recognized as Teacher of the Year as a public school educator. With a diverse background, she has served as the Director of Children’s Ministries at Dunwoody Community Church and spent 12 years as a lead teacher at Swift School, earning her Orton Gillingham Certified Level credentials. Her passion for education is evident through her active involvement as an educational consultant for three years and as a founding board member for Dunwoody Christian School. With deep roots in the Dunwoody community, Mrs. Wanamaker and her husband Archie have lived and worshiped locally for over 25 years and are blessed with four adult children and three grandchildren. Responding to God’s calling, she joyfully embraces her role as a principal at Dunwoody Christian School, exemplifying her dedication as both a Christian and an educator.

All teachers at our Christian elementary school teachers are committed followers of Christ and bring a Biblical world-view to everything they do in the classroom. With our dedicated team of certified Christian educators, we strive to equip students with a solid foundation of knowledge while instilling Christ-like character traits, empowering them to excel academically and become strong Christians and to become the future leaders of tomorrow.

DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONE REQUIREMENTS for ENROLLMENT to YOUNG CUBS and KINDERGARTEN

  • Students must be 4 years of age (Young Cubs) or 5 years of age (Kindergarten) prior to September 1st.
  • Students must be able to use the bathroom independently.
  • Students must be able to take part in meals without formal assistance.
